Valentine's day Not Just for the Young ? Baby Boomers are Looking ...

Valentine?s Day is just around the corner and plenty of people in their fifties and sixties are gearing up to share it with someone special, according to Jo Dinnison, Community Manager of 50and.com ? an online dating and networking site for Baby Boomers. -?Celebrating Valentine?s Day has traditionally been seen as the domain of the young: just look at the advertising images we?re bombarded with this time of year. Anyone would think you have to be under 30 to romance a loved one! Feedback from our members suggests otherwise, with plenty of them joining the site to meet someone special. They want to romance and to be romanced,-? Dinnison says. -?With 50 being the new 40 and so on, people around this age are still active and are not content to spend their late working years and retirement on their own. They still have a lot to give to a partner and are seeking new ways to find someone with whom they can share this time of their life, as we have seen with them joining 50and.com. Many of our members are interested in travelling both home and overseas; they?re financially secure and seeking someone to share life?s adventures with.-?

-?Having said that, Baby Boomers re-entering the dating scene can be plagued by a lack of confidence ? many coming out of a long term relationship may be unsure of the dating -?rules-? and are also subject to different pressures, such as still having children at home as well as caring for their ageing parents,-? according to Dinnison. With that in mind, 50and.com offers potential Baby Boomer daters some tips to help get back out there: 1. Decide exactly what it is you are seeking ? a friend to accompany you on dinner dates or a full time relationship? Being clear about what you desire is more likely to attract the right person for you. 2. Don?t expect too much of yourself. If it?s been a while since you?ve dated it will take some time to feel comfortable. 3. Think about past relationships and what has/hasn?t worked ? what have you learnt? Don?t repeat past mistakes. 4. Online dating is a great way to meet people you otherwise wouldn?t. Contrary to popular misconception, online dating is not a -?free for all-? ? you can be very discerning and learn a lot about the other person before you meet up. 5. When online dating, don?t wait for others to make contact first ? if everyone did this then there would be no contact at all. Go for it!
